Description
KG-2 was originally developed to maintain the bore integrity of sniper rifles. Unlike most other mechanical products, KG-2 contains no ammonia and is a 1200-1400 grit soft compound to remove copper and lead, while leaving the integrity of the bore. In most cases KG-2 will perform exceptionally well in removing copper and lead with quality patches, however, in some cases, nylon brushes are recommended. Based on the theory of removing the copper and lead from the lands and groves only, while simply smoothing over the impregnated copper and lead in the micro-fractures of the bore, KG-2 will help reduce the need for fouling shots and it is recommended and used by SWAT and sniper teams. KG-2 is an ideal product for fire polishing (A technique producing a finer finish than Fire Lapping).
Steve Brown –
I bought a bottle of KG-2 bore polish not long after buying my first inexpensive endoscope camera and discovering that my cleaning process was falling well short of my expectations. Cameras don’t lie, and a good look down the muzzle and throat revealed a whole lot of carbon and even some copper left after what I thought was a thorough cleaning using typical carbon and copper strippers.
I got ahold of some VFG cleaning pellets in intensive grade and wet the bore with KG-2 using a bore mop and went to work using short strokes working my way down the barrel and back. The pellets came out solidly black and thoroughly soaked in carbon residue. I patched it out and checked with the camera, then repeated as necessary.
I finally began to see the stainless steel in the groves. It was a long overdue process but it did the job. Accuracy returned to like new in both factory and custom barrels. I won’t be without KG-2 from now on to clean my barrels down to the steel.
